Joanna Grudzinska, portrait

 

Probing the depth of time in the present is what Joanna does with cinema, capturing the past in the real and the twist in which the actors of the drama are caught.

Born in Poland and exiled with her parents to France in the 80s, she studied philosophy and cinema (INSAS). After working in various positions in the film industry, from scriptwriter to casting director to actress, she has directed documentaries ( KOR, Révolution Ecole 1918-1939, Pologne contre Histoire), essays ( Quarzell dit Castel, Tout de moi ne disparaîtra pas) and fiction ( La roue tourne, Je veux quelque chose et je ne sais pas quoi, Loups solitaires en mode passif) which have been broadcast on television, programmed and awarded at numerous festivals in France (Angers, Pantin, La Rochelle, Fid Marseille, Cinéma du Réel, rendez-vous de l'histoire de Blois, ... ) and abroad ( Planet doc review, Krakow film festival, La Cabina, Flight Genova, Molodist film festival, Munich film festival, ...).

She is currently working on several documentary and fiction projects.

Joanna produces radio documentaries, radio biographies and essays (France Culture). She is also associate professor of writing and directing at the University of Amiens (UPJV).
